Launch of NCoE for AVGC-XR Boosts India’s Creative Industries

NCoE for AVGC-XR

MyHoardings Celebrates the Union Government’s Initiative to Establish NCoE for AVGC-XR

We at MyHoardings are thrilled to share the exciting news regarding the Indian government’s decision to establish the National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) in Mumbai, Maharashtra. This initiative marks a significant step towards propelling India’s creative sector, aligning with the 2022-23 budget announcement that introduced an AVGC Task Force dedicated to nurturing this rapidly evolving industry.

The government’s recognition of esports as a “multi-sport event” has catalyzed substantial growth within the gaming industry, prompting states across the country to actively participate in its development. Complementing this momentum, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is gearing up for the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES), set for February 2025 in New Delhi, which will feature esports tournaments for popular titles such as Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), World Cricket Championship (WCC), and eFootball.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his recent Independence Day address, urged Indian game developers to aim for global recognition. The NCoE is poised to be instrumental in this vision, focusing on cultivating India’s intellectual property while drawing inspiration from the nation’s rich cultural heritage. For instance, Indus Battle Royale, a game developed by Pune-based SuperGaming, has recently entered its open beta phase, symbolizing India’s growing influence on the global gaming stage.

Industry leaders are expressing excitement about the potential of the NCoE. Roby John, CEO of SuperGaming, called it a “game-changer for startups,” likening its future impact to that of IITs in engineering. He emphasized that the focus on developing India’s intellectual property aligns seamlessly with the aspirations of the industry.

Animesh Agarwal, CEO of 8Bit Creatives, praised the initiative for providing young enthusiasts with access to cutting-edge technology and mentorship. Similarly, Vishal Parekh, COO of CyberPowerPC India, noted that the NCoE will significantly enhance the animation and gaming sectors, engaging youth and boosting India’s global presence.

Akshat Rathee from NODWIN Gaming referred to the NCoE as a milestone for the industry, emphasizing its role in nurturing creativity and developing skilled professionals. Parth Chadha, CEO of STAN, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the initiative’s potential to create new opportunities for creators and strengthen community ties.

As the NCoE prepares to elevate India’s standing in the global gaming and entertainment landscape, we at MyHoardings share in the collective optimism for the future of the AVGC-XR industry in India.
