In an effort to aware people about road safety and alcohol misuse, U.P government launched a fresh Road safety champing. The campaign focuses on road safety measures and restricting people from ‘drinking and driving’ practice. Inaugurated by eminent officials such as state excise and prohibition minster Jai Pratap Singh, Manoj Kumar (state principal secretary social welfare) and many other eminent political personalities, the three-month long campaign is aimed at reducing fatal road accidents through this road safety campaign.
Astonishing Statistics!
According to statistics the country’s road safety is at margins. The records reveal that there is one road accident occurring every four minutes in India. According to United Nations, India alone accounts to annual loss of $58 billion due to road accidents. Road Accidents and accidents leading to fatalities have ‘drunken driving’ practice as their prime cause. Approximately, 1, 45,000 lives are claimed over road accidents every year in India. The situation was alarming enough to launch a campaign that strengthens road safety rules.
Road Safety Campaign highlights.
U.P road safety campaign launched by Uttar Pradesh Government in association with The International Spirits and Wines Association of India and Diego India, falls under Curb Irresponsible Consumption Program.
The highlights of the campaign:
- U.P road safety campaign will work on media mix to take road safety awareness to masses. The media mix will involve outdoor hoardings, radio announcements and activities, training programme for police and traffic officials of the state for capacity building in Lucknow and Varanasi.
- Strict monitoring of school vans, checking for helmets and seat belts and spreading awareness about traffic rules.
- Under the campaign, the transport and police officials have been directed for stricter implementation of road safety rules.
U.P Road Safety Campaign is a three-month long initiative that will focus on road safety awareness and safer driving habits to minimize road accidents and fatalities.
